When the Victorian Society learned that Worcester Council was planning for an important area, including a Victorian railway hub from the 1850s, to be developed, including the demolition of two historic goods sheds, we applied for listing for this significant part of railway history. Now there's a chance to have your say about the future of Shrub Hill.

The Victorian Society is extremely disappointed that, despite its strong objection, Chichester District Council has approved the demolition of a house designed by a significant Victorian architect in a conservation area.
The sun has long-since set on the British Empire, but its architecture still casts a long shadow. The Victorian Society’s 2024 Online Winter Talk series ‘Victorian and Edwardian Architecture in the Wider British World’ will visit Australia, Canada, India, South Africa, Malaya and New Zealand, with several of the talks coming from those countries.
Edwin Rickards by Timothy Brittain-Catlin is the latest in the Victorian Society’s monograph series on Victorian and Edwardian architects.

Griff Rhys Jones OBE, the President of LISSCA and the Victorian Society, is urging the public to fight the scheme that developer Sellar and Network Rail have proposed for Liverpool Street Station. Griff hosted the free public meeting about the proposed development on 21st November 2023 at the Bishopsgate Institute in London, close to the Grade II-listed station and the Grade II*-listed former Great Eastern Hotel that will both be harmed if the proposal goes ahead. Despite 366 objections the City of London has given permission to cantilever over a gem-like, much loved, Grade II-listed building.
The President of the Victorian Society and the LISSCA Campaign to Save Liverpool Street Station will be hosting a free public meeting at Bishopsgate Institute on Tuesday 21st November at 6pm. Hear how we can stop the partial demolition of the station and prevent a huge tower being cantilevered through and over the Grade II* hotel.
We have prepared this guide to help anyone who wishes to write an objection to the plans to partially demolish Liverpool Street Station.
The controversial planning application for the partial demolition of listed Liverpool Street Station to build a tower through and over the Grade II* former Great Eastern Hotel has now been published after many months of delay.
As many of you will know by now, Liverpool Street Station and the grade II* former Great Eastern Hotel, face a grave threat. Network Rail and Sellar, the property developer behind the Shard, are proposing a 21-story tower that requires the partial demolition of the station and would cantilever over the grade II* Great Eastern Hotel.

Opened in 1852, Shrub Hill Station in Worcester served as a joint station for the Midland and Great Western Railways, quickly becoming the focal point for a bustling railway district east of the city centre. This district included locomotive works, goods yards, wagon repair sheds, industrial facilities, branch lines, and sidings, establishing Worcester as a significant railway hub in the 19th century.
